What Remains - 30 Minutes of Ambient Generative Modular Synthesis for Sleep/Meditation/Concentration
Welcome back, friends-
To me, this conjures a feeling of post-stress, the calm after the storm. Fog still present but perhaps beginning to clear as the way ahead becomes apparent. Maybe that’s how many of us are feeling right now, venturing into the post-vaccine world.
This video was inspired by Uncle Peter’s creation here - ruclips.net/video/4-mpc3ddO54/видео.html
Doesn’t really sound the same but utilizes some of the same principles and signal paths on analogous tools. Thanks for the inspiration, Uncle Peter!
I worked on creating a similar (in some ways) patch using the modules in the rack I recently downsized (back) to from 3 rows which I felt had too many paths and left me with an uncerta...

kokoro - A Modular + Digitakt + OutboardFX DAWless Experiment
Просмотров 4343 года назад
This project began as an experiment to see if I could successfully interface the Digitakt with my modular rack. I ended up doing that via MIDI with the Expert Sleepers FH-2, which sends the MIDI clock to Pam's, which is then distributed across the system. Meanwhile, MIDI Track number 1 is also coming through the FH-2 and used to send CV/Gate to Plaits. Everything else is mostly connected via cl...
Methodical - Ambient Modular (19m) for Sleep/Meditation/Concentration, featuring Saïch
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
This is a simple patch featuring the new Saïch module, from Instruo. The basic chain is Qu-Bit Bloom (Sequencing) into Instruo Saïch (Voices) into MakeNoise QPAS (Filter) into CalSynth Typhoon (Space/Texture). Some additional modulation via the Instruo øchd (for filter cutoff and Saïch CV). The Bloom is sending the Saïch two sequences, one channel for the slow chord changes, and the other chann...
Obsesso (ambient generative modular synthesis for meditation or spacing out)
Просмотров 7673 года назад
I call this one "Obsesso", which is a nickname a friend gave me. Featuring a cool DIY LED cube that I assembled over the weekend in a solderthon I nearly abandoned out of frustration. Lots of modulation here, but basically I started with importing a custom wavetable on the 4MS SWN, and then added some noise (Plaits), percussive elements from Steppy/Squid, and generative (Quantized Bloom) melodi...
Darkened Doors - Generative Atmospheric Moog Trinity
Просмотров 4343 года назад
This was an experiment to try doing some generative things with the MOOG Trinity (Mother-32/DFAM/Subharmonicon). "Darkened Doors" because, well - I was thinking about the ominous and desolate darkened doorsteps on Halloween 2020. So what's going on in this patch? All three modules are synchronized. The DFAM is creating some modulated percussion, and the Mother-32 is giving us that nice punchy a...
Relentless - A Brief Musical Sketch featuring Generative Modular Synthesis with Moog Subharmonicon
Просмотров 2383 года назад
A quick sketch to get to know the Moog Subharmonicon and how it can integrate with a modular system. Need to figure out how to get better video I think it could be a lighting issue, but working on settings. Patch notes would be pretty complicated for this one, suffice it to say that we're working with a Eurorack modular synth, a Moog Subharmonicon, and Strymon Nightsky (which you can't really d...
The Cost of Doing Business - Ambient Generative Modular Synthesis
Просмотров 3313 года назад
I'm not sure why I called this "The Cost of Doing Business" except that it came to mind and relates to a conversation I had recently about modular and other studio gear. Yes, it's expensive, especially modular, but if this is something you love and want to do, then there's a price that must be paid. Fortunately, music production gear retains its value pretty well, especially if you're able to g...
REFRAME - Ambient Generative Modular Synthesis (drone music for sleep, concentration, meditation)
Просмотров 2773 года назад
I call this REFRAME, as it came in the context of rethinking how I use the ALM/BusyCircuits Squid Salmple module. Also a message to myself about broadly, seeing the world in new ways, and narrowly how poorly this was shot (haha). What's happening here? Sorry, went for dark stylized video but trust me it wasn't east to see what was going on with the modules, anyway. The next video will be sharpe...
Life Behind Glass - 30 minutes of Ambient Generative Modular for Sleep/Focus/Meditation/Relaxation
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
"Life Behind Glass" - This video features just over 30 minutes of a quiet ambient generative modular synthesis patch. To me, it conjured up a sense of stasis, or isolation, which so many are feeling right now, from homes to hospitals. Signal flow is similar to "The Sound of The Object" (started from an exercise in recreating that) prettier to look at, but harder to see, because of the dark ligh...
Ambient 147 - 2 Hours of Generative Modular Synthesis
Просмотров 14 тыс.4 года назад
Nearly 2 hours of ambient generative modular synthesis, suitable for relaxation, sleep, concentration, meditation. Technical notes (what's going on here): This began as an experiment with the Resonator algorithm on the Disting mk4. Once I found a satisfying tone, attenuated by the Triplatt, I established tonality by sending random voltage from the 2hp RND (displayed on the O'Tool scope) to the ...
The Sound of the Object. 3 Hours of Generative Modular Ambient
Просмотров 143 тыс.5 лет назад
Still trying to come to grips with the philosophy of generative music. This piece is not performed, but constructed-what you hear is the sound of the thing, not a song made with the thing. We can only experience music in linear time, but this entire musical object exists at the point of its creation. And in fact, this is just a 3-hour sample of what is potentially an infinite creation. So this ...

Here's my fifteenth entry for #Jamuary2017. Guess this is the halfway point! I can say I've learned a lot from the exercise of posting daily for the past two weeks. This video starts with a groove I composed on the Novation Circuit while sitting by the pool (sans video camera), and then morphs into something else, with sunset in the background. For interest, I splice in some fish and seagull sc...

Fourteenth entry for #Jamuary2017. Doing my best to keep up, even on days where I don't have access to my studio. Can't say this is too inspired, but fun nonetheless. Create, create, create. I chopped out some parts to make the full length shorter.

A ten-minute groove creation session, this time trying out a simpler setup, direct from the instrument to the camera (monitored via camera headphone port). Everytime I start wondering if I really need the Circuit, I take it out and am reminded how easy it is to generate creative musical ideas. If only patch selection were simpler, it would be perfect, but the unknown factor is one of the joys t...

Twelfth entry in my #Jamuary2017 series. Noodling toward a triumphant-sounding sequence on a couple of Korgs. These two devices are so versatile, and sync together nicely. The entire session was about 35 minutes long but I've condensed it here to about a sixth of that.

Am I looking at the whole thing? All this sound came from just that box? (and an Elektron Heat MK2, whatever that is?). Each of those modules are individually purchased and put into that cabinet? If there is a youtube somewhere that shows how that part is done, please let me know. I am curious. No flames please. Amazing sounds and atmosphere, yes, like Brian Eno but most intriguing when it is generated by 'the object'. Love the concept.
